Rock Musician - Mavi Sakal

Tibet Ağırtan is a Turkish rock musician who is best known as the lead vocalist popular 80's and 90's rock band "Mavi Sakal" (Blue Beard).

Tibet Ağırtan (born July 12, 1965 in Mersin) is a Turkish rock musician. His start with music began at the Tarsus American College when he formed the a rock band called Echo ’83, later known as Mavi Sakal.

Between 1979 and 1994 he was the lead vocalist of the rock band “Mavi Sakal” (Blue Beard).

In 1992 he moved to Australia. In 1995, he left the band and directed solo work.

He then released two solo albums, “Yat Geliyorum” in 1995, and “Kalk Gidiyorum” in 1997.

In 2005, he who worked with the “Kırık Kalpler” community, Tanju Eren, Korhan Karuşağı, Merih Aydın and Nedim Tanyolaç and “Kırık Kalpler” revived the Rock’N’Roll group and performed at many festivals. He was a producer on the album Zardanadam’s Dibini Gör (2005).

In 2006, Murat Tümer, Tibet Ağırtan, Taylan Dedeoğlu and Batur Yurtsever reunited with Mavi Sakal on their album “SON..Kİ..5..10”.

Since 2007, he has been involved in festivals and concerts with Tibet Ağırtan and Rock’n Roll. He is an organiser of the Musicians@Work / iş Güç Rock’N’Roll festivals.

He’s on his third solo album now.

Mavi Sakal

Mavi Sakal was a Turkish rock band, founded by Murat Tümer, Kaan Altan, and Tibet Ağırtan in 1980, who were students at the Tarsus American College in Tarsus, Turkey. The band changed their name to Mavi Sakal (literally, blue beard, or Bluebeard) in 1984, until then going by the name ECHO’83. In 1992, they established their first album “Çektir Git” and then in 1993, they published their secon album “Mavi Sakal 2” after short period of time which their album published, their songs “Çektir Git” and “Şaşkın” made their place in the top lists. Due to this success, their producer published their second album in CD format. This album is also the first Rock album which published by a Turkish rock band.

The band received increased public attention following their performance before Status Quo on the stage of Wembley Arena in Wembley, London in 1997.

After eight-year hiatus, they released their new album titled Naklen in 2015. The last seen-together members are either active in other formations such as bands FOMA and Karapaks, or as solo artists.
